• Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) Profile

The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) was established in 1994 against a background of far-reaching donor-supported economic reform programs in Uganda. The reform programs initially emphasized post-conflict rehabilitation before establishing macroeconomic stability that yielded sustained growth at an annual rate of about 5%.

During the late nineties, into the new millennium, Uganda's development policies have focused on short- and medium-term structural strategies for translating the macro-level successes to real improvements in people's standards of living. The strategies are conceptualized and developed in the Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP), which is the prime instrument for operationalizing the aspirations expressed in the Uganda Vision 2025.

In this context, the establishment of EPRC fills a fundamental void in policy work by providing analytical backstopping for policy dialogue, formulation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
